About
Matcha is finely ground green tea powder made by carefully shading tea plants before harvesting. The shading enhances the chlorophyll content and creates it's distinctive green colour. once they have been harvested, the leaves are then steamed, dried and ground into a powder.
By consuming the whole leaf, matcha drinkers will benefit from the exceptional flavour and health benefits whether enjoyed on it's own, as a latte or other beverage, or in baked into desserts.
Northern Matcha is a place for Canadians to discover and support all of the amazing matcha tea companies in Canada.
There are so many incredible small batch matcha brands in Canada, and I hope that Northern Matcha will become your online destination for high quality matcha and matcha accessories and tools.
To prepare:
- Sift 1-3 grams (1/2 tsp - 1 tsp) of Matcha into your matcha bowl (chawan). The amount of matcha used will depend on your preferred taste, or the specific recommendation on the product packaging.
- Pour approx. 60ml of hot, but not boiling, water (175 F or 80 C) into the bowl.
- Whisk the tea with a matcha whisk (chasen) in a W motion for 30 seconds until smooth. Alternatively a milk frother can be used.
- Enjoy on it's own or combine with a milk or milk alternative to create a hot or iced matcha latte. There are many drinks that can be made with matcha! At Northern Matcha we particularly love hot and iced matcha lattes made with oat milk.
We carry all of the high quality matcha and accessories that you need to create your morning matcha ritual!
